Name: Ashwood Waldorf School |
||||
Ashwood Waldorf School is a learning community dedicated to providing a Waldorf education to children from early childhood through eighth grade. Our curriculum, based on the insights of Rudolf Steiner and fueled with a deep respect for the spiritual nature of the human being, is designed to ignite the child ' s imagination, engage the will, and develop capacities for creative and independent thinking. |
Ashwood integrates the arts into all areas of study. In the Waldorf tradition, we provide a learning experience that engages the whole child: head, heart, and hands. We nurture the child ' s connection to nature and the cycles of the year in settings of rural beauty. Students learn and play daily in our woods, meadows, and gardens in midcoast Maine. |

Ashwood was founded as an initiative of several families in midcoast Maine interested in Waldorf education. The first kindergarten was launched in 1986 in Lincolnville Center with the expansion of a small cabin near the Silverio residence on Proctor Road . A second kindergarten class opened in Rockport in 1990. This became the site for the main Ashwood campus in 1991 when a combined first-and-second grade class ushered in the grade school program. |
Ashwood is an independent nonprofit school, incorporated under the laws of the State of Maine , and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The early-childhood programs are licensed by the Maine Department of Human Services. Ashwood is also a member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America and a developing member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. |
