Focus: The Gibbon Conservation Center (GCC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to the study and preservation of the increasingly rare, endangered small ape, the gibbon. Many of our mated pairs of several species have produced offspring, making an important contribution to the world's captive gibbon population. We provide free advice to zoos and rescue centers throughout the world. In addition,we offer tours to local college, high school and elementary students, and other groups
Ages: all ages
Costs: $7-$12 --minimum required for a tour is $100
Notes: Because gibbons can catch human diseases, we ask that you do not come to the Center if you are ill or have been exposed to a contagious disease.

Information

Major Exhibits
We house approximately 30 gibbons of 5 species in large outdoor naturalistic enclosures, where they live in normal family groups. Their vocalizations are spectacular (variously described as sounding like car alarms, bagpipes, Tarzan yells, whooping, hooting and other thrilling sounds.) Gibbons also are very acrobatic--their normal mode of locomotion is brachiating (swinging) from branch to branch at high speed.

Exhibits of 06
We house gibbons in natural family groups (male, female and juvenile and infant offspring) where they can behave normally. We encourage noninvasive research by students and scientists that benefit gibbons and increase the world's knowledge of them. Our main purpose is to prevent their extinction
