History: Girl Scouting has a long history in the area now served by Girl Scouts - Spanish Trails Council. This is a relatively new name that became effective July 1, 2001, replacing the previous name, Spanish Trails Girl Scout Council, that had existed since March 1966, when a contest among troops, won by troop #999 of Chino, decided the name that was officially adopted at the March 1996 annual council meeting. Girl Scouting itself began March 12, 1912, founded by Juliette Gordon Low
