Major Exhibits: Display of 19 exhibits about Great Lakes Shipwrecks, including the original bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald; White Shoal 2 nd order Fresnel Lens; history of diving; history of native Americans at Whitefish Point; history of U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Life-Saving Service on the Great Lakes . The site features 10 historic structures, four of which are now open to the public.
Exhibits of 06: The 1923 Surfboat House features a new exhibit about the U.S. Life-Saving Service and U.S. Coast Guard along Lake Superior 's Shipwreck Coast . This exhibit includes authentic artifacts; works of art; descriptive panels; and full-size replica Beach Cart and 26-foot Beebe-McClellan Surfboat used by the heroic rescuers whose motto is, "You have to go out, but you don't have to come back."

The museum is located at 18335 N. Whitefish Point Road, north of Paradise , Michigan . There are good two-lane blacktop roads all the way to the museum. The usual visit to the museum takes about two hours. The museum is open every day, including weekends and holidays, from May 1 to October 31. Hours are 10 am to 6 pm .

Class Trip Programs
Study materials are available in advance for all class trips; please call 888-492-3747 to reserve your trip and ask that materials be sent to your school. A visit includes a self-guided tour of the Shipwreck Museum building; a 20-minute video presentation; a guided tour of the 1861 Lightkeepers Quarters building; a self-guided tour of the 1923 Surfboat House; a walk on the barrier-free access boardwalk to the Lake Superior shoreline; and a visit to our Shipwreck Coast Museum Store.
Class Trip Pricing
Class trips are considered a "student group tour." Groups must be 20 persons or more to qualify for discount pricing. Group prices for 2006 are $5.00 per students ages 6-17; two chaperones are admitted free, price for additional chaperones is $7.50 per person |
