Major Exhibits
Permanent exhibits in the Holland Museum explore aspects of local history including Lake Michigan maritime, shipwrecks and resorts; agriculture and manufacturing; service to the community; the religious foundation of the "Holland Kolonie"; and an illustrated timeline of area history including its increasing ethnic diversity

The Cappon & Settlers House Museums, a few blocks to the West, enhance the story of Holland’s early settlers with the beautifully preserved and restored living environments of Holland’s first mayor and that of a ship carpenter’s family.

Imagine crossing an ocean and nearly half a continent to settle in an unfamiliar land. This tour brings the struggles of Holland 's early settlers to life (1846-1871). A trunk with period clothing, reproduction objects, and a teacher's guide with photographs, historical documents and lesson plans is available prior to your visit.

This popular tour introduces young children to what a museum is and helps them learn about their community and its history. It offers a look at the museum galleries, a behind-the-scenes peek at how a museum works and a hands-on activity with objects from Holland 's history.

Experience life as a 19th century child with a visit to the modest Settlers House and the elegant Cappon House, home of Holland 's first mayor. The tour is filled with ways for your students to learn about early Holland and its growth into a city, and includes games and hands-on activities. A teaching trunk with objects, clothing, and photos is available prior to your visit.

The Odawa and the Dutch ( Holland Museum )

A new museum tour focusing on the Odawa tribe, which lived seasonally in Holland prior to the arrival of the Dutch. Emphasizes the Native American lifestyle and, in a non-judgmental manner, explores how the arrival of the Dutch forever altered the Odawa way of life.
