At Kent School our mission is to serve those who strive to grow in knowledge, skill, spirit, and wisdom; to nurture striving where it falters; and to prepare all, in turn, for service to others. In keeping with our Judeo-Christian heritage and affiliation with the Episcopal Church, we center our school life in our Chapel. In so doing, we endeavor to center our own spiritual lives while learning to understand and respect each other's beliefs and differences.

The history of Kent School is a history of innovation in education. Fr. Sill founded Kent with a vision different from most prestigious boarding schools, which is captured in the school motto: Simplicity of Life, Directness of Purpose, and Self-Reliance. Established in the Episcopal tradition, Kent welcomes applicants of all faiths, beliefs and religious traditions. From its founding in 1906, Kent has been committed to educating students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. In accordance with the vision of our Founder, Kent was conceived as a "democratic" school; consequently, all Kent students participate in a daily work program. In addition to fostering self-reliance, the program teaches stewardship, invests students in the environment in which they live, and teaches the value of individual contributions to the community. Fr. Sill was also committed to educating students from "all walks of life." This mission is continued today with the Kent Parents Fund and our Financial Aid Program. Awarding $5.4 million annually, Kent 's commitment to financial aid, relative to its endowment, ranks first among our peer schools. |
