Name: Kula Makua-The Honolulu Waldorf Teacher Training Program |
||||
The mission of Kula Makua is twofold. First, our objective is to provide Waldorf teacher training in and for the Hawaiian Islands , in order to help meet the growing needs of the Waldorf school movement worldwide. Second, we aim to provide an opportunity for interested individuals to develop a relationship to anthroposophy, the arts, and Waldorf education. |
We believe that to be truly meaningful, education must engage the child in body, soul and spirit, and must be appropriate to each stage of the child's development. |
||||
Kula Makua began in the 1980's in the founding director's living room, as a means of helping parents understand their children's Waldorf education. It has evolved into a full-fledged Waldorf teacher training program (incorporated in 1997), which is recognized by AWSNA as a Developing Institute. |
During the 2007/2008 school year, we have served approximately 30 students; half in Honolulu , and half on the Big Island of Hawaii – whose three year program will be completed in June. Our holidays are concurrent with those of the Honolulu Waldorf School , and our school year runs from late August through May. |
