CRP Criteria:

No sobriety requirement. Can be in early recovery or maintenance stage. Any student who is in recovery, seeking recovery for an addictive behavior, or has been affected by the addiction of a loved one or friend is welcome to join R.I.S.E.

Mission Statement:

To provide support for students in recovery from alcohol and other drugs, as well as creating an exciting sober environment for students on Ohio University’s campus. R.I.S.E utilizes abundant resources from the university and Athens community to engage students with joy and fellowship. This fosters a safe place for students to learn, grow and to discover themselves at Ohio University through:

Philosophy/Belief Statement:

R.I.S.E. believes that students should not have to choose between recovery and an education. Students in recovery should be able to have the same opportunities as their peers upon graduation.

Program Goals:

The program is dedicated to empowering students in recovery thoughout their university careers. It aims to provide a nurturing and affirming place for recovery students and those supporting recovery. Students can intereact socially while pursuiing their academic, personal and professional goals for the purpose of enhancing their quality of life. The program advocates for resouces and the reduction of stigma associated with recovery and aims to increase retention among students in recovery.

Program History:

Ohio Unviersity began efforts to establish a recovery community on campus in 2009. After a task force was established and a full time staff position to oversee it was hired, the collegiate recovery program officially began in the fall of 2012. Since that time membership in the program has risen, sober social activities and community service activities have increased, and several scholarship for students in recovery have been established.

Programs and Services:

1) Provides a designated meeting and lounge area in the center of campus for students in recovery
2) Provides individual relapse protection plans
3) Provides support through weekly meetings and individual meetings
4) Provides social sober activities that are free for students
5) Provides scholarships for students in recovery
6) Provides access to internal and external resources such as treatment, counseling, sober housing, academic enhancement, legal, and financial aid
7) Provides resouces for 12-step meetings and other recovery meetings on campus and in the Athens area
