Computer Capabilities:
The Urbandale Public Library has 39 PCs available for public use. Each computer has the following:
Software
Internet access using the Internet Explorer web browser, Microsoft Office 2003 including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Front Page, Office Project, Picture Manager, Publisher and Visio.
Hardware
All of the computers have, CD writeable drives and USB ports for flash drives (jump drives or thumb drives).
A black and white laser printer and a color laser printer are available for the public to print documents from the computers. Fees include $.50 per page for color copies and $.10 per page for black and white copies.
Education Programs: Various Adult programs, youth programs, story times, and computer classes are offered throughout the year.
Summer Programs: Youth Services Summer Reading Program.
Membership Details:
Any person, in Urbandale or other contracting communities, who is five years of age or older, may obtain an Urbandale Public Library card free of charge with proof of current address (pre-printed check, utility bill or bank statement) and photo ID. An Iowa driver's license number, passport number or social security number is required. Library cards expire on a yearly basis and are renewable if there are no outstanding fines or fees.
Subscription (non-resident) Cards - A subscription card is sold to persons living outside the state of Iowa. The cost is $100.00. The card is good for one year from the date of purchase, at which time it is renewable for another $100.00. This card entitles the purchaser to all services at the Urbandale Public Library. The purchaser is held to all the responsibilities of a regular cardholder. Verification of current out-of-state address is required. Our Mission:
The Urbandale Public Library is committed to providing diverse resources for life-long learning and enjoyment.
Urbandale Public Library is owned by the city of Urbandale and governed by a seven member Board of Trustees. We serve not only the residents of Urbandale, but the surrounding Des Moines metro area as well as contracting cities within the state of Iowa. The current 56,000 square foot building was completed in 2000 and houses a variety of print and non print materials. In the library, you will find computers, photocopiers, meeting rooms, study areas, children's programs and more!
Library History:
The Urbandale Public Library has been a part of the City of Urbandale community for over 40 years. Originally opening in 1961, it has been housed in various locations throughout Urbandale, until opening a new building in 2000.
