The FLAGS department is made up of a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team of teachers teaching English, Social Studies, Math, Science and Foreign Language. All students in the FLAGS program are taught by the same team of teachers, and will attend all classes except Physical Education with other FLAGS students.
Curriculum:
FLAGS students are exposed to a challenging curriculum which is integrated across disciplines. Teachers teach with a focus on global studies to make students more aware and engaged citizens of the world. All students take a foreign language as an elective class. Currently, Spanish, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, French and Mandarin Chinese are offered.

Admissions Requirements:
Application to the FLAGS program is required. Selection is based primarily on students work ethic and desire to be in the program and take a foreign language. Grades and CST scores are also reviewed.
The FLAGS program continues through the high school level at Hilltop HIgh. Once admitted to the program, students are granted admission throughout high school as long as they maintain a "C" average.

Notes/School Information:
The FLAGS program hosts several events throughout the year, including a Multicultural Fair, Hunger Luncheon, Science Fair, Portfolio NIght of student work, Math Field Day and Science Night presentations.
Students particpate in field trips throughout the year: Museum of Tolerance and Medieval Times in Los Angeles, San Diego Zoo, Old Town, and Birch Aquarium.
