Service Description: Advocacy for the blind by the blind
Mission Statement:

THE REAL PROBLEM OF BLINDNESS IS NOT THE LOSS OF EYESIGHT. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE MISUNDERSTANDING AND LACK OF INFORMATION THAT EXISTS. IF A BLIND PERSON HAS PROPER TRAINING AND OPPORTUNITY, BLINDNESS CAN BE REDUCED TO A PHYSICAL NUISANCE.

Membership Fee: $1 for National and $5 to $10 for local chapters.
Eligibility Requirements: blind and low vision individuals, their families and friends
Area Served: chapters in cental and northeast Oklahoma; advocacy and resources for entire state.

annual state convention in april or May of each year. chili suppers, bowling tournaments and bar-b-q judging contest to have fun, raise money and increase the awareness of the capabilities of the blind.

History:

the National Federation of the Blind is the oldest and largest advocacy group comprised of the blind speaking for themselves. We are represented in all fifty states, the District of colombia, and Puerto rico.; including over 700 chapters.
