Additional Information:
Voluntary Service at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center offers opportunities for youth volunteers in clerical, clinical, and community assignments. Based on the hospital's needs and the youth volunteer's interests, we assign volunteers in areas such as patient units, community living center as culinary events volunteers, nutrition and food, pharmacy, hospitality/messengers, etc.
For our big event the week of Valentine's Day - National Salute to Veterans - we LOVE receiving cards for our veterans. Cards are due by February 1 to Voluntary Service.
Deadlines for cards:
October 31 - Veterans Day
November 1 - Thanksgiving
December 1 - Christmas/Hannakuhah
February 1 - National Salute to Veterans
May 1 - Memorial Day
Cards cannot be larger than 8.5" x 11", first names only and school names, no candy, glitter, or stickers are permitted on the card. Please send cards to Voluntary Service and include a cover sheet to acknowledge the cards.
We also encourage visits from our youth to our residents at our Community Living Center (nursing home). Group size is limited to 10 students with 2 chaperones.
We also accept students who are looking for graduation projects. However, interested students must volunteer as a regular volunteer one year prior to the start of the project.
