Membership: The Newberg Public Library is funded by city taxes. Library cards are available without charge to those paying city taxes. For children outside the city limits please ask to see if you qualify for a free local option library card
Notes: Library Hours Monday and Friday: 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m
History: The library was established in 1907 by the Ladies' Wednesday Club, and housed in a corner of the YMCA. In 1910 the group applied to and received funds from Andrew Carnegie for a library building. In 1912 the library opened to the public. Remodeled in 1985, the library expanded to meet the needs of the growing community. Now twenty years later the library is fundraising to expand the Children's Room of the library.
Events: he Newberg Public Library has opportunities available to children, teens and adults. Our monthly library activities include storytimes, book clubs, Author Celebrations, Movies (for kids, teens, adults and en Espanol). Please call the Children's Reference Desk at 503 537 0304.

Education Programs

The library has 5 weekly storytimes for newborns through pre-schoolers. These storytimes include music and fingerplays as well as stories. The skills your child learns in storytime will help them make the transition to reading when they are ready.

Lap-Sit Babytime at 11 a.m., Tuesdays This gentle story time is designed for babies birth to 12 months only.

Baby-Tot Time at 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays A 20 minute story time for 1-2 year olds with stories, songs, and a giveaway.

Family Storytime at 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays A storytime for children of all ages.

Preschool Storytime at 11 a.m., Wednesdays This 30 minute story time is for 3-6 year olds with stories and songs.

Toddlertime at 11 a.m., Thursdays A lively 30 minutes of songs & short stories for children 18 months to 3 years.

The Newberg Public Library offers book clubs for children in 1st through 3rd grades. Please call the library at 503 537 0304 for details.

Summer Programs

Toddler Summer Reading Kick-off Party: Wed., June 14th, 11:00-12:00 p.m. This program for babies to children 3 years old includes animals to pet, games and prizes.

All-ages Summer Reading Kick-off Party: Wed., June 21st, 1:00-2:30 p.m. Start summer reading with games, prizes and fun!

Reptile Man Richard Ritchey: Wednesday, June 28th, 1:00 p.m. This is your chance to see crocodiles, snakes, lizards and other reptiles up close!

Steve Taylor's World of Animals Featuring Magic & Ventriloquism: Wed., July 5th, 1:00 p.m. Puppets, magic and ventriloquism all combine in this entertaining show for kids.

Amazing Border Collies: Wed., July 12th, 1:00 p.m. Astounding feats and athletic tricks by some of the smartest dogs you'll ever see.

Stuffed-Pet Show: Saturday, July 15th, 1:00 p.m. A special animal show-and-tell for stuffed pets and their owners.

Oregon Raptor Center's Birds of Prey: Wed., July 19th, 1:00 p.m. Visit with incredible hawks, eagles and owls and learn about these magnificent birds of prey.

Roland Smith Book Club: Wed., July 19th, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Kids 4th grade and up will read any Roland Smith book they choose, and get together on July 19th to discuss the books. Please register at the Children 's Desk for this event.

Oregon Author Roland Smith: Wed., July 26th, 1:00 p.m. Meet the author of Sasquatch, Zach's Lie, The Last Lobo and many more. This is your chance to chat with a great Oregon author and have your books autographed. Chapters Books will be on hand to sell books.

Teddy Bear Picnic at Rotary Park: Wed., August 16th, 11:00 a.m. Bring your teddy bear and a picnic lunch to the park for storytime fun!

Children's Craft Program: Wed., August 23rd, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Summer crafts for children 5th grade and younger!
