Curriculum: Shad Valley gives our participants a taste of the university environment, and covers a number of academic subjects: science, technology, entrepreneurship, engineering and mathematics. Our lectures, labs, and workshops will help students enhance their knowledge and build skills. Students also have the opportunity to invent a new product-or innovate an existing one-as a member of a team working on an entrepreneurship project. Shad Valley is not all work however-there are many opportunities beyond the classroom (sports, a talent show, camping, a mountain hike, a jazz evening, a canoe trip, a morality play, etc.). Students will be challenged, learn, and have fun, working hands-on with 50 like-minded individuals, with access to more resources and excellent thinkers than are often found collected in one place. Activities are scheduled morning, afternoon and evening, 7 days a week
Setting: Host university residences & facilities, across Canada (for 2008: Vancouver, Calgary, Thunder Bay, Waterloo, Hamilton, Ottawa, Peterborough, Kingston, Québec City, Fredericton, Halifax, St. John's).
Referrals: The Conference Board of Canada's National Award for Excellence in Business-Education Partnerships; The Michael Smith Award for Science Promotion, awarded by Industry Canada; NOVA Corporation Global Best Award, an international award for partnerships that demonstrate success in promoting scientific, mathematical and technological competencies. |

Since 1981, the Shad Valley program has been helping top students in senior high school find an edge in the competitive, knowledge-based world of tomorrow. It's an experience unlike anything else you've seen; it combines entrepreneurship with science and technology, and offers academic and often paid work experience to its students.
Shad Valley is a unique motivational experience which will not only expose you to a multitude of ideas and career possibilities and challenge you with hands-on workshops and group projects, but will introduce you to 50 other bright, inquisitive young people just like yourself. You will stretch your mind, hone your skills and make amazing friendships
Participants spend the month of July at one of twelve universities across Canada , where they attend lectures and workshops, and get involved in group projects. Some go on to five weeks of paid work with Shad partner companies, combining their own talents with the skills honed at Shad to tackle real-world challenges.

Shad Valley is a 4 week summer program for senior high school students (typically grades 10, 11 & 12). We look for students who are well-rounded (creative, have demonstrated initiative and drive, have good interpersonal skills and leadership qualities), and are in excellent academic standing. There are 12 host universities for 2008, with approximately 50 students per location. Students and staff live in residence on a university campus; the approximate student/teacher ratio is 5/1. Shad Valley is operated by the not-for-profit organization Shad Valley International, which has charitable status.
