At The Timbers, our goal is to offer personal growth opportunities to our campers through outdoor adventure programming. We place high emphasis on offering group decision-making and leadership opportunities as well as exciting recreational programming. The Timbers staff act as supportive guides as the campers plan their own program schedules.
Programs are designed specifically to enhance self-esteem, encourage positive risk taking behaviors and provide opportunity for challenge and growth in an age appropriate way. Campers will be able to interact with others from a variety of backgrounds, preparing them for the global marketplace of the future. Campers learn group discussion and decision making skills by planning their own activities (within established guidelines). Campers participate in cleaning and maintaining camp facilities, thus learning citizenship and a sense of responsibility. The Timbers provides a rustic environment to facilitate appreciation of the out-of-doors. Campers on overnights and trips experience primitive living conditions.
Campers register for a variety of trips throughout Northern Michigan and beyond. Specialties include biking, sailing, backpacking, and canoeing; we have programs for beginners through advanced participants. Destinations include The Manitou Islands, Isle Royale, Mackinac Island, the Boundary Waters, and much more!
