To visit his articles on the site click here. -------------------------------------------------- Information Databse: Albin Polasek: Czech-American sculptor and educator. He created more than four hundred works during his career, two hundred of which are now displayed in the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park, Florida. Battle of Olustee: The Battle of Olustee or Battle of Ocean Pond was fought near Lake City, Florida, on February 20, 1864, during the American Civil War. It was the largest battle fought in Florida during the war. Edward Leedskalnin: Latvian sculptor and engineer who built a castle in Homestead, Florida, USA. He was born in Riga, Latvia. He is well known for his underground theories on magnetism and received only a fourth grade education. John James Audubon: Franco-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He painted, catalogued, and described the birds of North America. Louis Comfort Tiffany: American artist and designer who is best known for his work in stained glass and is the American artist most associated with the Art Nouveau movement. Tiffany was a painter and interior decorator and designed stained glass windows and lamps, glass mosaics, blown glass, ceramics, jewelry, enamels and metalwork. Truman Seymour: Truman Seymour was born on September 24, 1824, in Burlington, Vermont. The son of a Methodist minister, Seymour was both an accomplished painter and, primarily, a career soldier. He served in the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War, where he rose to the rank of Brigadier General. He commanded the Union troops at the Battle of Olustee on February 20, 1864, the only major Civil War battle fought in Florida. |
