Setting:
A clubhouse located between 2 schools, our location has a gameroom, eating area; Education/Technology Room; Cadet Center for ages 5 to 8 featuring study area, computers and art space; Music area for voice, guitar, piano and drum instruction; Teen Center including a kitchen for cooking courses; a vegetable garden; swimming pool; gymnasium and open field for softball, soccer and a KABOOM playground.
History:
Built in 1950, the B&G Clubs of East Los Angeles, originally known as the Eastside Boys Club has served the community for close to 60 years. It is a charter member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 1954. Our mission: to enable and inspire all youth and their families to realize their full potential as productive, healthy, caring and responsible citizens through the enduring principles of Hope and Opportunity.
Program Highlights:
Our Parent Project Collaborative with the County's District Attorney's office, Parks & Recreation, Sheriffs, Probation Department and County Supervisor, 1st District has been awarded the National Association of Counties Program Excellence Award, boasting over 1600 parent graduates. Chosen by Toyota Financial Services as their "Making Life Easier for YOUth" partner, the club has awarded close to $500,000 in scholarships over 3 years to 160 club members, alumni and staff.
Support Services:
Our Family Resource Center offers resources and referrals to our parents on topics such as: housing, legal matters; food security; parenting; nutrition; public safety; ESL; financial literacy; computer courses; consumer workshops and information on how to advocate for their child's needs.
Activities:
Homework assistance; small group tutoring; computer classes; chess club; career and job readiness; mentor program; character and leadership development; teen services; art classes; music classes; graphic design; drama; film making; photography; set design; quilting; needlepoint; knitting; dance classes; gardening and nutrition; youth development on self-esteem, stress reduction, goal setting, diversity and respect; sports: basketball, softball, soccer, karate, swimming, Jr. Lifeguard, recreational games and field trips.
Field Trip Destinations: Museums, movies, concerts, community volunteer projects, amusement parks, theatre, sporting events and special events throughout Los Angeles.
