Description:

A unique facility located at Fair Park in Dallas. Founded in 1936, TDG comprises 7.5 acres of organic native Texas gardens along with the world famous 2-story indoor Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium. Texas Discovery Garden's motto is Discover = Explore, Experience, Entertain, and Educate. Our facility features a Natural Learning Center, classroom and meeting space, many ponds, and several different gardens. The outdoor playscape features a rock climbing wall, rope ladder bridge and other activity features. Our gardens are all natural, organic, and feature native Texas plants and trees. With a variety of gardens there is something for everyone, especially bees. We emphasize pollinator plants throughout the facility. The 400 gallon lobby tank is where you'll see the unique Axolotls and our garden trains will keep you mesmerized. There is always something special going on at TDG; butterfly releases, critter encounters and more. We welcome individuals, groups and education visits. With notice we can create a special visit for any grade level. We also offer the Grand Hall for weddings and events for up to 300 people. There are multiple outdoor area such as the Meadow that include picnic tables and blanket areas. We have 6 designated party areas outside. Texas Discovery Gardens is a 501c3.

Program Type:

Our educators provide nature-based education programs for ages PK-12 that align to state curriculum standards. Our programs focus on a variety of topics about the natural world, including science, plants, bugs, adaptations, math, and art. Groups can also enjoy a self-guided tour of our multiple gardens, indoor exotic Butterfly House and Insectarium, Snake and Reptile Shack, outdoor gardens and ponds, Art Gallery, and Natural Children’s Playscape. The garden trains and associated historic buildings are on display daily, but the trains run only on Saturday, Sunday and special occasions.

Exhibits: Tropical Butterfly House and Insectarium, Snakes and Reptiles, Multiple Organic Gardens, outdoor butterfly and hummingbird gardens, ponds, fountains and waterfalls, Natural Learning Center, Discovery Art Gallery, Natural Children’s Playscape, Garden Trains and historic Texas buildings.

Reservations Needed: Yes, for education programs. Group reservations of 10 people or more may receive a discounted group rate if reserved ahead of time. No reservations required for general admission. We will always try to accommodate any last minute requests.
Directions:

We are located in Fair Park in Dallas just off of I-30. Exit the Fair Park-Second Ave exit and then enter Fair Park Gate 6. Our parking lot is immediately to the right. Cross the inner street and you'll be at our front door. Parking is free. Admissions during the State Fair of Texas which is also held at Fair Park's 277 acres is slightly different. Please contact our customer service for specifics.
