Philosophy/Belief Statement:

Miriam is the premier educational hub for children with learning differences in the St. Louis area. We meet students where they are, taking a strengths-based approach to a truly individualized education. From experiential learning to therapy services to life skills, Miriam sets students up for a productive future. Our students’ challenges often include specific learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, speech/language disorders, anxiety and sensory processing differences.

Miriam School and Learning Center is committed to creating equity and a sense of belonging for all of our students, their families, our employees, and everyone who is a part of the Miriam community. The Miriam organization fully embraces each student and adult involved with our organization, and we celebrate the unique gifts, strengths and talents he/she/they bring to our community and to this world. We strive to provide a supportive and open environment where all people feel a sense of belonging to our community. Miriam works hard to provide families with resources so they can equally access our services.

School History:

Miriam is proud of our legacy that spans over 100 years of service to the St. Louis community. The organization was originally chartered in 1910 as “Miriam No. 17”, a local chapter of the national organization United Order True Sisters, Inc. (UOTS) and was, from the outset, focused on community service.

In 1956, Miriam School was established to serve children with developmental disabilities. Following the establishment of Special School District and other public school special education programs, Miriam School’s focus changed in 1962 to serve children with complex learning disabilities.
