Mission Statement:

The mission of Big Friends Little Friends is to make a positive difference in the lives of children by matching them with a mentor who provides them guidance, friendship, and support. We offer our Big Friends the opportunity to experience the magic that comes with opening a child’s eyes to new perspectives and possibilities.

Philosophy/Belief Statement:

Reaching out to one child affects an entire
community. The simple truth is, the more positive examples,
education, and opportunities young people have
in their lives, the more chances they have to succeed
in today’s world as providers, protectors and
mentors to their own children and community.
Research shows that one-on-one mentoring is
one of the best ways to have a positive impact on
our children and our future.

Program History:

Big Friends Little Friends, formerly Big Brothers
Big Sisters of Greater Lawrence, matches children
with caring adults who serve as role models and
friends. Although both “Big” and “Little” tend to
benefit from the one-to-one mentoring relationship,
by simply spending time together, the volunteers
help to increase their Little’s self-confidence
and create a more positive outlook for the future…
making a BIG difference!
