The school was founded in 1904 by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery. It began as an all-girl school with boarders. The Montessori school opened in 1971. Boys enrolled in the 1980s. The elementary school is ranked as the #1 Private Elementary School in KY (niche.com) and the high school has several National Blue Ribbon designations, is a COGNIA School of Distinction, and has been recognized by Newsweek and the Washington Post, among other recognitions.
