School History:

The school is 63 years old. For many years it has served the Fort Greene community, with a student population that is about 45% Hispanic and 51% African-American and 3-4% other ethnicity. We have had a Spanish Bilingual program for at least 30 years. The Bilingual program was a Transitional model Spanish one until 2009, when we began making the transition to a Dual Language model, starting with Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Each year since then we have added a grade. Our goal is to offer students a Dual Language education from Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

Because the school has a long history of providing Bilingual Spanish Education, we have an experienced staff.

PS 46 has long had a strong Art program and partners with various arts partners. Starting in the 2013-21014 school year, we have received a Magnet Grant as the School of Communications and Media Arts through Applied Learning. This enables us to expand the integration of Art, Music and Technology through Project-Based Learning in all curricular areas.
