Conferences/Speakers: Annual Fall Conference Dates Announced!
OCTOBER 15 & 16, 2009
Since 1978 our organization has focused on promoting multi-sensory approaches to teaching reading, math, spelling, phonology, written expression, and learning strategies. Each year, over 600 attendees participate in our annual fall conference, including classroom teachers, special educators, speech and language pathologists, tutors, parents, school administrators, psychologists and adults with dyslexia.
During 2009 we are proud to offer two distinguished keynote speakers: Shad Moarif, Ed.M., who will present "Our Children are Failing Math as much as Math is Failing Our Children", as well as author Dr. Robert Brooks, who will present on "The Power of Mindsets: Nurturing Motivation and Resilience in Students with Learning Differences".
History:
IDA was founded in 1949 and continues the work of Dr. Samuel Orton in the study, prevention and treatment of the specific learning disability known as dyslexia that affects up to 20% of the population. Formerly known as the Orton Dyslexia Society, IDA has 48 branches in the United States in addition to 11 global partners.
