Mission Statement:
The Karen Gaffney Foundation is a non-profit organization
that is dedicated to championing the journey to
full inclusion in families, schools, communities and the
workplace for people with Down Syndrome and other
disabilities.

Eligibility Requirements: Youth and Young Adults of all Abilities
Area Served: Nationwide and local Portland Area
Hours of Operation/Schedule: 9:00 am-4:30pm Monday-Friday; Presentations all days and times of the week, all year round.

Conferences/Speakers: Karen Gaffney gives inspirational and educational presentations across the U.S. and the world to diverse groups concerning her long-distance swimming and her academic and professional accomplishments, as well as about growing up with Down Syndrome. On average Karen speaks to 35+ groups, conferences, universities, etc. per year, and gives numerous workshops for Self-Advocates on leadership, physical fitness and using drama and the arts to express one's dreams and goals.
Fundraisers: Karen also speaks at Buddy Walks and Fundraisers for groups such as Best Buddies and various Down Syndrome organizations across the U.S.

Instill renewed hope for a full, productive and inclusive life in the hearts and minds of new parents of a child born with Down Syndrome or other developmental disabilities. Motivate parents to new thinking and positive action so they will begin immediately building the potential of their child day by day. Heighten awareness and raise expectations of students, counselors, educators and those in the medical profession of the capabilities of children with Down Syndrome to learn, grow and contribute in an inclusive setting. Promote community involvement and action for the support of people with disabilities.
