History:
We are a registered 501c3 that was incorporated in the spring of 2008. Founded by three experienced advocates for Down syndrome, that are also parents of children with Down syndrome. Robbin Lyons, Deb Balderas and Amy Elfner wanted to take a fresh approach to supporting paople with Down syndrome and their families with a community based program focussed on life-long support.
Detailed Organization Information:
At Wisconsin Upside Down, we know that the parents of children with Down syndrome report that they are happy. Siblings say that having a brother or sister with Down syndrome has been a positive experience. Children with Down syndrome enjoy school, friends and sports, just like all children. They can excel in school and have a passion for knowledge and learning. Today people with Down syndrome lead rewarding lives and may live independently with assistance. Employees with Down syndrome are enthusiastic workers, who are trustworthy, responsible and loyal.
Wisconsin Upside Down strives to help individuals with Down syndrome reach their full potential by offering opportunities for them to excel. We work hard to change the public's often antiquated perception of Down syndrome by offering community based programs that are designed to turn stereotypes "Upside Down" and show that people with Down syndrome have worth, capabilities and heart.
Slogan: Creating Communities, Opportunities and Acceptance for people with Down syndrome in Wisconsin
