The afterschool programs take place at 4 distinct school sites.
History:
Southern Sierra Boys and Girls Club's began in 1999 when a group of concerned citizens in Ridgecrest, CA realized the importance of After-School programming for youth. The Southern Sierra Boys and Girls Club (SSBGC) worked closely with community partners to develop the local Club and its programs. It represents a coordinated effort among the Sierra Sands Unified School District, the City of Ridgecrest, the Police Department, civic groups, as well as other non-profit agencies.
Support Services:
Support services include homework assistance, transportation for students, small group or individual tutoring in math and literacy with a focus on English Language Development.
Activities:
The primary focus of our elementary afterschool programs is a balance between academic achievement and enrichment activities. We provide hands-on, experiential learning activities for the following areas: Literacy/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History/Social Science, Computer, Robotics/Engineering, Spanish, Martial Arts, Cooking, Drama, Theatre Production, Fine Arts, Health & Nutrition, Physical Fitness, Recreation, Youth Development, Student Council and Community Service.
Field Trip Destinations: During the summer time, we operate a summer camp that includes field trips to the following locations: batting cages, bowling, RC Bouncer, pizza and games, swimming pool, movie theatre, etc.
Program Information:
The Southern Sierra Boys and Girls Club offers Elementary Afterschool Programs at 4 school sites from after school dismissal until 6 p.m. These programs are structured around 3 program components, including Education and Literacy, Homework and Tutoring, and Educational Enrichment.
Education and Literacy: Daily academic components reinforces the regular school day curriculum with fun and exciting hands-on experiments, games and activities while meeting California content standards for each grade level.
Homework and Tutoring: Students receive guided homework assistance and small group tutoring with qualified personnel daily. Homework is checked for accuracy and completion.
Educational Enrichment: Kids love education enrichment activities! They enjoy classes like building and programming a robot, cooking their favorite dishes, learning new sports, creating videos and movies on our computers, youth leadership, martial arts, drama, stage production, etc.!
Our Goal: We strive to foster a life-long passion for learning, inspire all students to excel academically, honor the unique qualities and diverse backgrounds of all students, build supportive relationships, guide all students to reach their full potential, motivate all students to successfully pursue their chosen life paths and engage all students to become responsible and contributing members of society.
