Additional Information:
iCAN Junior Triathlon Team is composed of athletes of all sizes, ages, and skill level. Some participants may be experienced youth and junior triathletes while some are participating in sport of triathlon for the first time. We create a safe, fun, and encouraging team environment, in which athletes develop the skills to enjoy the sport of triathlon. Triathletes train to their age appropriate developmental stage, current conditioning, experience, and skill level, to accomplish their individual goals.
Youth Team Swim Training (6-12)
All youth team members swim with Clovis Swim Club. We used to coach all the swim, however, with all the different ages, abilities, and skill level our coaching requirements and CUSD pool facilities were too costly to justify continuing swim training for the youth team. The decision was made not to increase our triathlon program costs so the additional Clovis Swim Club costs would still make the program affordable. This new schedule gave athletes more swim training time and gave us more cycling, (which the athletes enjoyed) run, and strength training time. It also greatly improved the athlete's overall performance. For the competitive youth, the bike and run have the greatest impact on overall performance. The swim is important and begins to impact the overall performance more as the athlete ages up.
Junior Team: Ages 13-19
This group of triathletes can be beginners or have had several years of training and racing experience. They can be new to the sport or come up from the youth team. While some are still in a developmental stage, these triathletes are mastering swim, bike, and run techniques, building base, and speed to advance in future years. These athletes have usually chosen the sport of triathlon as a primary or secondary sport and want to further develop their skills, knowledge, training, and performance with a goal to perform at the Youth or Junior Elite level. Some of these triathletes may be on an Individual Training Plans (ITP).
