Activities:
Annual field trip rotating between New York, Los Angeles, and MAGIC, the largest fashion industry tradeshow in the US. The annual CWU spring fashion show is a student-run event where students develop essential skills relevant to future careers in the apparel industry. They work with local businesses, technicians, and clubs to handle publicity, fundraising, model coordination, stage design, music, choreography, and show announcements. Apparel Design students create original clothing lines from concept to completion, featuring original designs.
Clubs:
The Student Fashion Association is a group of students who are interested, passionate, and dedicated to studying fashion, either as Apparel, Textiles & Merchandising major or minor or as a fashionable inclined students of another major. We are where friends, fun and fashion collide. Our mission is to give our members as many real life insights into the fashion industry as possible. Through fashion focused community service projects, personal projects and fundraising for our annual out-of-state trip to industry capitals such as New York City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. These trips serve as a steppingstone for members to get an inside look at the industry. With over 135 clubs on campus, there is always something to do!

There are several program options to choose from, including study abroad, interning abroad, service learning, to name a few. Students meet with their academic advisor to identify a study abroad program and map how courses taken abroad can transfer back to the program at CWU.

The mission of the Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising department is to educate the next generation of leaders by preparing graduates who are creative, socially responsible, and professionally knowledgeable in the broad spectrum of the apparel industry.

Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Students apply knowledge to professional projects and industry case studies in a collaborative setting, creatively addressing fashion challenges. They build a digital portfolio to showcase their skills to potential employers.

FASHION MARKETING SPECIALIZATION
The specialization prepares students for careers in the global field of fashion, marketing the diverse array of products and services it provides. Students explore creative, technological, and promotional strategies; consumer behavior; e-commerce and retail; influencer marketing; textiles, merchandising and visual communication; industry technology; and the role of marketing within the fashion system.
JOB PROSPECTS: Social Media Management, Editorial Communications, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Promotions, Photo Styling, and Fashion Journalism.
APPAREL DESIGN MINOR
The Apparel Design core offers practical training in essential apparel design skills. Students learn design principles, creative expression, fashion sketching, draping, pattern drafting, and more. The curriculum emphasizes market-oriented product creation for specific audiences.
