At John F. Kennedy Middle School the faculty and staff are committed to fostering a positive/teaching learning environment that supports the intellectual, physical, and personal development of the middle school student. The educational programs addresses the needs of our diverse student population. The middle school is continually aligning its curriculum with Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and the high school. The middle school has a universal sreening assessment administered to all students in math and reading using the STAR assessment programs. NOVANET is also in place for students who fall behind dued to excessive absences from classroom instruction. Academic Intervention Services are available in ELA and Math. Homework intervention is provided to all students Tuesday - Friday. The consultant teacher model is used to support students with special needs. Student Support Teams meet weekly to address students' diverse learning needs. In addition accelerated
programs are offered in math and science through teacher recommendation or by parent request. All students are provided the opportunity to paricipate in music, arts, and technology. Students in eighth grade are introduced to the language of either France or Spain.
The middle school students are involved in character education development through building intitatives centered around Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and building wide character edcuation activities. Students are offered an array of extra-curricular programs and modified sports after school. The Boys and Girls Club has partnered with the Middle School to provide year round services. The middle school also offers a summer school program to provide students the opportunity to be successful for the next grade level.
