Accreditation: TEA Exemplary
Grade Level:
Pre-K, K-5, 6-8
Founded: 2001
School Setting:
Unlike traditional public schools, we allow a maximum of 22 students per class, which enables teachers to give more individual attention to the students. Students in grades 1-6 have a homeroom teacher, but for each core class, students rotate to other teachers’ classrooms for instruction. We believe that parent involvement is paramount, so we strive to ensure that faculty is readily available for communication regarding their child’s success. TPS also offers a unique “all day” model, which allows students to stay at the school from as early as 7 a.m. to as late as 6:30 p.m. These extended hours are especially beneficial for parents who work late, take classes, or commute from surrounding areas.

We are a tuition-free, public charter school, and enrollment is open to students residing in Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, and Comal counties. We currently have a student body population of 176 children.
School History:
On March 16, 1994 the Willie Mae Mitchell Community Opportunity Center was established as a community-based youth organization. On November 21, 2001 the organization was accepted into the membership of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and was renamed the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas (BGCSCT).
Since its inception, the BGCSCT has proudly served the youth of Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties. Our Club provides children with a safe place to learn and grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; and hope and opportunity for all members. We are a public, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located in San Marcos, Texas. One of the BGCSCT's most unique features is that it is only one of two clubs in the United States that operates a charter school, Texas Preparatory School, which implements BGC programs and operates according to the BGCSCT mission.
Programs and Services:
One of our most unique features is that our charter holder is the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas, an extension of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We are only one of two Clubs in the United States that operates a charter school, and we have the benefit of integrating its programs into our educational plan.
Notes/School Information:
Our core values are to provide a safe, positive place and have a significant impact on children's lives; and to uphold high ethical standards in all areas, especially in overseeing our finances; reporting data and community outreach; being good stewards of the donor dollar; and representing ourselves to the public.
