Founded: Yuma Elementary was built in 1968.

Yuma Elementary School is one of seven elementary schools in Scott County, Virginia. There are approximately 220 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The school is located on state route 614, approximately eight miles south of Gate City, Virginia, and one mile north of theTennessee state line.
The first school built in this immediate area was started in 1884 and was named Cleveland in honor of President Grover Cleveland. The school contained both elementary and secondary students until 1955, when the secondary students were consolidated into Gate City High School. The present building was first used in the fall of 1968. At that time the name was changed from
