The Lake Hamilton School District, The School of Champions!
School Municipalities: Lake Hamilton is located in Garland County Arkansas. The nearest large city is Hot Springs National Park, about 8 miles east of our campus. Lake Hamilton is actually located between the small communities of Pearcy and Hempwallace, Arkansas.
History:
On August 6, 1945, the Garland County School Board met at 11:00 a.m. At this meeting, the directors of nine small public school districts in western Garland County voted to consolidate into one larger school district. The school districts of Center Fork, Evening Star, Greensmith, Hempwallace, Pearcy, Piney, Pleasant Hill, Sunshine, and Valley joined to become, the Lake Hamilton School District.
County School Supervisor, Roy H. Morgan, served as superintendent until the Lake Hamilton School Board hired it’s first superintendent in 1947, Mr. Roy E. Trawick. Classes at Lake Hamilton began with the 1947-48 school year. Until then, students attended the consolidated schools until they eventually were phased out and until ’47-’48, our high school students were bused across the county to attend Lakeside High School.
In 1947, Lake Hamilton Schools consisted of the following: STUDENTS: 547; TEACHERS: 20; BUS DRIVERS: 4; CUSTODIAN: 1; and CAFETERIA STAFF: 4. Today Lake Hamilton School District has grown to one of the largest schools in Arkansas with 4,141 students and over 500 employees.
Other Facilities: In additon to our 6 school campuses on one larger extended campus, we have just opened up a new facility between the Intermediate and Middle Schools. The New Horizons Alternative Program is designed to provide special programs and assistance for studnets that experience difficulties in the traditional classroom setting, are behind in credits toward graduation, or need special counseling.
Athletics: While the Lake Hamilton School District sets a very high priority on academic programs and success, we belive thatnational research shows that students that are actively involved in extracurricular programs and have a positive relationship with adult mentors in the school perform better academically and are more likely to stay in school, graduate, and to go on to college and careers. Therefore, we are very proud of our extensive athletic program for both male and female athletes. Because of our long history of athletic success in a multitude of sports, we are sometimes wrongly steriotyped as the "Athletic School." We firmly believe that students can achieve in both athletics and in the classroom. In fact, some of our most talented students are also our most gifted athletes. In addition, our coaching staff are excellent classroom teachers in a wide variety of subjects including math, science, social studies, and health just to name a few. The Lake Hamilton Coaching Staff has an excellent balance of young entergetic coaches and experienced veteran coaches. Our coaching staff has memebers that have received numerous national, state, and conference awards for their coaching successs. Lake Hamilton is proud to have been named the winner of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All Sports Award for four consecutive years for overall success in all sports in Class 6A and in the top of all Classifications. Lake Hamilton Wolves are competitors and winners!
In addition to our athletic programs, we are home to one of the best band programs in the south. The Lake Hamilton Band Program starts in the 6th grade and progresses throughout high school. The Lake Hamilton High School Band proudly calls itself "The Power Band of Arkansas!" We consistantly win regional and state marching contest and have even won some out of state competitions.

Additionallly, our students have access to concurrent classes where they can earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Our close proximity to National Park Community College and National Park Vocational Technical School allows for some of our students to attend classes at Lake Hamilton and still work in classes on these campuses in their normal school day.

We were the only school in Garland County to receive this honor.

Our AP courses have been recognized for exceptional growth in the last few years. Our participation in the AAIMS Grant (Arkansas Advanced Inititave for Math and Science) has been a huge push to improve our AP offerings. Also, we are the home of the Arkansas National AP English Teacher from 2009-2010.
Transportation: Lake Hamilton covers a wide area of Garland County. We have one of the geographical largest districts in the state. From paved state highways and suburban residential subdivisions all the way to narrow gravel and dirt country road, our school buses successfully transport over 2,000 students from home to school and back again every day. Safety is our number one concern. Our professional staff of bus drivers are connected to each other and to the school base with modern radio equipment and our buses also have up to date video camers on board.
Juvenile/At-Risk Student Programs: The New Horizons Alternative Program is new to the district. It is housed on our campus and we also are part of a group of county schools that send students into the Hot Springs School District to another alternative program, The Summit School. Our new local program has been wildly successful. It is geared to help student that are behind in their credits for graduation by giving them indivdualized and computer assisted classes for credit recovery. They will have the choice to either rejoin the traditional school when they are back on grade level, or to continue in the alternative program. We also offer a GED Program at New Horizons and a Behavioral Classroom for students with difficulty in the traditional classroom. Students may earn the right to also participate in Vo-Tech Classes at National Park Vocational Technical School or in College Courses at National Park Community College. In addition, with the correct academic and behavioral performance in New Horizons, they can be eligible to participate in traditional school activities such as athletics, band, music, and art classes just to name a few. This program has gained huge support from the Garland County Juvenile Court System.
