Notes/School Information:
The Leonard Independent School District is located east of State Highway 121 on U.S. Highway69, approximately 35 minutes from McKinney in Southwest Fannin County.
It is located in a beautiful area of farms and ranches among gently rolling hills. The school system is experiencing gradual growth and has been able to adequately plan for this without disrupting the educational process. The district has many educational opportunities including programs for gifted students, athletics, career/technology and vocational educational offerings, BETA Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). The district has an excellent fine arts program including music in the elementary and intermediate school. The intermediate school has an active honor choir. Students can participate in the outstanding band program beginning in junior high school and continuing through high school. Students also have the opportunity to participate in choir at the high school level as part of our music program. A large percentage of students participate in the extra curricular and co-curricular opportunities afforded them in Leonard ISD schools.
The school district is made up of four campuses including Leonard Elementary School, Leonard Intermediate School, Leonard Junior High School and Leonard High School. Leonard Elementary has received one of the top two ratings given by the Texas Education Agency now for seven consecutive years and was named an “Exemplary “ campus once again last school year. The campus has also earned several Commended Performance awards in math, reading, and attendance as well as has been named a Title I Distinguished Performance School during this time. A concerted effort has been made to keep the student-to-teacher ratio low enabling teachers, students and parents to develop excellent relationships in promoting an outstanding education.
Campuses have parent involvement groups including PTL, Band Boosters, Leonard Athletic Association and Career and Vocational Booster Club. Parents are welcome and encouraged to become involved in their children’s educational programs. We encourage you to visit the school website and learn more about the excellent experience your children can have by enrolling in Leonard ISD.
The Leonard Independent School District strives to have an active partnership with parents in the education of their children. You will have the opportunity to participate in many areas of your children’s school. We seek volunteers and encourage cooperative visits mapping out strategies and methods that work with unique and varied abilities and interests.
