Mission Statement:
ND CDE's mission is to ensure that all North Dakota middle and high school students regardless of location have access to educational opportunities that meet or exceed expectations for
- the quality of curriculum
- ongoing contact time with highly qualified teachers,
- the selection and use of suitable educational technology,
- monitoring course delivery efficiency and effectiveness, and
- student learning.

District Characteristics: ND CDE has a statewide role. ND CDE is the sanctioned online school for all of North Dakota
School Municipalities: All cities and towns in North Dakota
History:
ND CDE was founded in 1935. The ND Legislature determined that rural students needed to have their opportunities to receive an education enhanced by a state-operated correspondence school. Later the name was changed to the Division of Independent Study. And finally to the Center for Distance Education.

Curriculum:
ND CDE supports 183 courses. All 183 are avaiable online. 125 courses are available in print version.
Belief Statements:
ND CDE believes that intelligent use of educational technology can transform the effectiveness of student learning, teacher methods, and administrator decision-making.
Organization Goals: Form educational partnerships with the 123 most rural schools in North Dakota.
Increase rural schools capabilities by sharing resources.
Supplement rural schools purchasing power via acquisition of private and federal grants.
Scholastic Perfomance: Nearly all ND CDE graduates go on to college. Most go on to do graduate work.
