"We inspire and empower learners"
District Characteristics: North Royalton City School District
We Inspire and Empower Learners
The Vision of the North Royalton City School District is that our educational community will be a model in identifying individual student needs and providing comprehensive support.
In June 2010, the North Royalton City School District officially began the journey towards setting the course for its future as a school district. In just nine months, nearly 1,000 people came together to develop the district's five-year strategic plan. This plan represents the culmination of months of hard work and community engagement. The students of today and tomorrow will reap the benefits of this strategic plan and the work of so many individuals.
In addition to the recent adoption of the district's strategic plan, The North Royalton City School District has a great deal to be proud of in and out of the classroom. The district has achieved an EXCELLENT rating on the Ohio Department of Education Local Report Card for the 11th consecutive year!
Academic programs at North Royalton City School District are designed to build and reinforce the mastery of basic skills, encourage higher-order thinking skills, and to instill a love of lifelong learning. With a solid academic base developed at the elementary and middle school levels, students are well prepared to select either a challenging college preparatory and/or a comprehensive career preparatory program when they enter the high school. North Royalton High School also offers students the opportunity to take rigorous Advanced Placement courses. The district provides outstanding special education and related services for students with disabilities as well as vocational education through the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC).
The North Royalton City School District currently serves more than 4,700 students from the Cities of North Royalton and Broadview Heights. The school district is comprised of an Early Childhood Center (Pre-K through Kindergarten); three elementary schools: Albion, Royal View, and Valley Vista Elementary (Grades 1 to 4); North Royalton Middle School (Grades 5-8); and North Royalton High School (Grades 9 to 12.
Elementary schools offer students many opportunities to expand their knowledge through special interest clubs and leadership programs. Middle school and high school students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of intramural and interscholastic athletics as well as a large spectrum of clubs, leadership opportunities and scholastic achievement organization.
North Royalton High School has received state and national recognition for its Marching Band, JETS Rocketry Team, Robotics Team and Computer Programming Team. During the 2009-2010 school year, the Academic Challenge team of Scott Jackon, Greg Smith, and Rae Melilli, who appeared on the Newschannel 5 television show, won the competition. The North Royalton schools have had many championship athletic teams and state qualifiers in individual sports.
Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in our schools. There is a PTA at all building levels and parents and residents serve in an advisory capacity to the administration through committees such as the Curriculum Advisory Council, Business Advisory Council, Financial Advisory Council and Facilities Committee. Our Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters have raised thousands of dollars to support the athletic and music program as well as supporting our students every time they march out onto the field.
With goals and action steps in place for the district's strategic plan, the real work will now commence. The North Royalton City School District will work in concert with the community to make the vision, mission, and actions come to life. The district is dedicated to providing the education students need today to prepare them for the world of tomorrow.
