History:
Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) was formed in 2001 primarily due to the requirement of the legislative requirement that school districts adjacent to districts that have racial isolation (either due to a racially isolated school or school districts). Because Brooklyn Center and Osseo Districts met the criteria, NWSISD was formed with seven member districts, including Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose, Elk River, Fridley, Osseo, and Rockford. Mounds View School District officially joined the NWSISD in August 2010.
While the overarching purpose of its existence was defined by the desegregation rule, NWSISD had to develop its own goals, programs, and initiatives as well as its structure and operations. Over the past nine years NWSISD has evolved as needs have changed. NWSISD role is that of facilitation, clearinghouse and to provide services, coordination, as well as management for programs and initiatives that are common to all eight member districts.
