Additional Information
Mission Statement:
Providing quality education where students come first.
District Characteristics: The 67-square mile York Central School District is located amid the lush farmland of northwestern Livingston County, about 35 miles southwest of Rochester and 70 miles east of Buffalo. Major sources of employment include dairy and crop farming, Tabtronics, Atofina, Arkema, American Rock Salt, and CPAC. Many area residents commute to Rochester for employment.
The area offers a multitude of cultural and educational benefits. Colleges and universities serving the region include the University of Rochester, St. John Fisher and Nazareth Colleges, Rochester Institute of Technology, the State University College at Brockport, and the State University at Geneseo, located just five miles to the east.
York's location provides easy access to the recreational opportunities of the Finger Lakes and Genesee Valley, including nearby Letchworth State Park, home of the magnificent Genesee River gorge known as the "Grand Canyon of the East." York School District is also home to the Abbey of the Genesee where Monks' Bread is made.
School Municipalities: Included in the district are the towns/hamlets of York, Leicester, Cuylerville, Fowlerville, Piffard, Retsof, Greigsville, Wadsworth, and Linwood.
Athletics: York is part of the Livingston County Athletic Association within Section V of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. We offer several sports at the modified, junior varsity, and varsity levels.
Curriculum:
York teaches to the New York State Standards and is currently working towards aligning with the National Core Curriculum.
Organization Goals: Preparing all students for success in college, careers, or military service.
Scholastic Perfomance: Mean SAT scores are 1054 (529 math / 525 reading). Our 5-year average graduation rate is 91.6%.
A.P. Classes: Currently offering 6 A.P. courses: Biology, Calculus, US History, US Gov’t, English, and Economics. Other A.P. courses are available to take online as part of a student's course of study.
Transportation: Full fleet of 22 buses owned and maintained by the district. Our buses cover about 400,000 miles annually.
Libraries: We have two libraries and librarians in the district, one for elementary students and the other for middle/high school students.
After School/Extracurricular Programs: Numerous offerings are available.
Media (TV/Radio) Shows: Students produce a morning news show called "The Knightly News." It is shown in all classrooms daily.
Computer Capabilities:
All classrooms have interactive white boards. There are four different computer labs available across the district.
Support Services:
Full range of special education and related services offered as per recommendations by the district's Committee on Special Education.
