Program Information:
The focus of the Children Interacting After School program is to offer students a safe, fun, enriching experience between 3:15-6:30pm. Upon arrival, students receive a nutritious snack and engage in social-emotional learning that consists of a student voice and choice activity, restorative practice community circles and/or community service activities. Our TEKS-aligned curriculum focuses on numeracy, literacy, and social-emotional learning. All enrichment and social-emotional activities take place after snack and changes each nine weeks depending on student needs as well as student voice and choice. Additionally, every nine weeks a class is showcased via a hands-on Family Engagement Night that allows students and families to learn and create together. Relationship building is embedded in each Family Engagement Night as another means to include social-emotional learning. Community collaboration is an important function of our program as well. We partner with independent contractors such as Shamelessly Saved Productions and Math-A-Matics Tutoring to help us increase our literacy, numeracy and social-emotional learning focus.
According to district data, students in the after-school program outperform non after school program students on standardized test. Additionally, our program helps to increase overall academic performance, improve attendance, and provides a safe and structured environment for Alief students and their families.
