History:
Healthy Notions is a 501(c)3, children's non-profit organization that focuses on enhancing the lives of children ages 6-12 through education, health focused initiatives.
The organization was co-founded by Barenda Whitaker and Kim Whitaker (biological sisters) in October 2008. Healthy Notions is privately funded organization and is empowered by individuals and corporations with a passion for the development of whole,... healthy children and families. We receive our financial and volunteering support from businesses, grants, private citizens, civic and faith-based organizations.
Our partners and sponsors collaborate with Healthy Notions to provide the resources necessary to create community environments and initiatives that support healthy choices and the development of a healthy community.
Support Services:
Healthy Notions works with children and youth ages 6-12 who are experiencing some of life’s most difficult challenges due to: family transitions (traditional and non-traditional households, Single parent due to divorce, separation, death, abandonment or mother never married, step family, blended family or foster family) or homelessness, domestic violence, socioeconomic, terminal or chronic illness, foster care, childhood obesity, emotional and behavioral challenges, children of incarcerated parents, bereavement or parents in the military. By definition, youth experiencing any one of these challenges are deemed “at-risk” for unhealthy and adverse behaviors. Unfortunately, many of our youth experience several of these challenges at any given time, increasing their risk exponentially. Healthy Notions serves children from all economic, racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
