History:
Our academy has produced several National and State Chess Champions. It was founded by an experienced, proven chess coach, International journalist/analyst, and undefeated correspondence champion. Our highly-trained and entertaining staff is available for classes, enrichment programs, clubs, summer camps, private lessons, tournaments, and simultaneous exhibitions. We specialize in opening and tournament preparation. WE COACH ALL AGES: 4-ADULTS!
Program Highlights:
Coach Mike's style of teaching has been described as "electric". Our students build a tactical opening repertoire with emphasis on understanding THEMES, not just memorization! This leads to rapid improvement and pattern recognition. Tactics make chess fun and develop creativity. Scientific studies show studying chess has many benefits: better grades, time management, improved study habits, critical thinking and problem solving, increased self-esteem, and teaching responsibility for one's actions. We have been doing this since August 1994, when starting with a group of ADHD novice students at Roland Park Middle School. By that December, we finished 3rd at Nationals in Syracuse, NY! More importantly, the principal loved how all of these kids suddenly began to get better grades, paying attention in class, and had improved self-esteem.
Support Services:
We help teachers and coaches get chess classes started, usually in after school enrichment programs. It's a great way to supplement your teaching career as a chess coach . We supply weekly DVDs, lesson plans, business plans, & franchise type deals. We offer both telephone and Internet support.
Activities:
Does your child enjoy creative activities? Enjoy playing with other children? Need a boost of confidence? Chess provides children with a chance to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests. Our qualified and caring instructors will evaluate your child's abilities, analyze their games, and put them in a program designed especially for their needs.
