History:
The School of Rock Newtown has been in business since 2004. We will be celebrating our first year anniversary in our current location in Newtown this June. Previously, we were located in Feasterville in the Beat Street entertainment venue on Buck Road. We were the second satellite school of the original School of Rock based in Center City Philadelphia, formed by Paul Green.
For more than a decade, School of Rock has been teaching kids to rock on stage and in life, not only
providing kids with great music education but also building self-confidence, reliability and a strong work
ethic. Today School of Rock operates 100+ schools in over 25 states and Canada and Mexico, expanding to meet the tremendous demands of parents who want enriching after-school programs for their kids who want to
play music.
Program Highlights:
Beside private lessons, we perform live concerts at actual music venues. Our most accomplished students comprise our Bucks Band, which performs at many local venues, festivals and charity events. The best students may also try out for the national All-Star program, which tours the country during the summer.
In addition, we have a Rock 101 program for beginners, a Performance Program for adults, and a Little Wing program for preschoolers.
We also have summer camp sessions - this year we have five 1-week sessions planned: Beginner (4 days): June 24-27; Classic Rock: July 15-19; Modern Rock: July 22-26; Led Zeppelin: August 5-9; and The Beatles vs. The Stones: August 12-16.
Activities:
Music lessons, concerts, summer camps, movie nights, open mic nights.
Field Trip Destinations: This summer we are joining other School of Rocks around the country to play at the Summerfest music festival in Milwaukee. We have performed at various other musical festivals, including the Gathering of the Vibes in Connecticut. Locally, we have taken students on a tour of the Martin Guitar factory in Nazareth, PA.
Program Information:
School of Rock's performance-based curriculum teaches students to play rock music in a unique and
interactive way. Through our innovative curriculum and community atmosphere, School of Rock
students not only learn music, but develop problem-solving and teamwork skills that cross over into
other areas of their lives. Since the opening in 2004, students have painstakingly prepared in group
rehearsals for over 75 themed shows that represent all of the subgenres of rock music, including
Mandatory Metallica, Funk & Reggae, Southern Rock, Old School vs. New School Punk, and Prog Rock,
turning in hundreds of performances.
In addition, we have a Rock 101 program for beginners, a Performance Program for adults, and a Little Wing program for preschoolers.
