History:
The Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation was launched in 1995 with volunteers raising money to provide small grants to educators and programs within the Saint Paul school district.
In 2005, the district re-convened community leaders to develop strategies for how the Foundation could have a larger impact. A new board was established and a consultant hired to work with the board to determine how the Foundation could support academic achievement for all children in Saint Paul Public Schools. This new board determined that it would focus on four key areas:
Champion public education
Facilitate partnerships
Fund innovative projects
Celebrate success of students, schools, and the school district
Mike Anderson was hired as the Foundation's first executive director in November 2006. Since then, the board has been expanded, organizational infrastructure has been developed, and initial programs have been launched -including the Tutoring Partnership for Academic Excellence.
Support Services:
Tutoring
Program Information:
The Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation is coordinating a city-wide tutoring initiative—the Tutoring Partnership for Academic Excellence which strives to ensure high-quality, consistent tutoring for students in Saint Paul Public Schools. There are over 5,000 students in the Saint Paul Public Schools that need a tutor today. Caring adults can make a significant difference in a child’s life by becoming a volunteer tutor. The minimum time commitment is one hour per week and volunteers have over 20 programs in St. Paul to choose from. At the Foundation, we match volunteers to school-based and community-based tutoring programs throughout the city. Training and resources are provided.
