History:
The YWCA Warren is in its second year of facilitating the Before and After School Program. During the 2008-2009 school year the YWCA Warren facilitated this program at the Lincoln K-8 School, and because of its success and a need expressed in district surveys by parents we have expanded our programming into each of the schools for the 2009-2010 school year.
Program Highlights:
The program provides safe, convenient care for children before and after school during those hours that parents work. Children are able to remain in the comfort of their school building and among known peers. Students participate daily in crafts, homework assistance, center time, physical recreation and also receive a snack provided through the district. This year, the program will provide programming on early release days and calamity days in order to meet the needs of working parents. In addition, the program is fortunate to have Foster Grandparents who are able to dedicate one-on-one time with students to improve reading and math skills.
Support Services:
The staff from the Before and After School Program work with teachers, counselors and administrators to ensure that we provide consistency in working with individual students, and that we make appropriate referrals for families in need of additional support. The program staff also keep families updated on other programs that are taking place at the YWCA Warren.
Activities:
Students receive time each day to finish homework with staff assistance, to participate in free choice and center time activities, to work on arts and crafts, music and drama, and physical recreation and outdoor play. In addition the students receive an afternoon snack provided by the school district.
