Program Highlights:
Our school started planting our first vegetables and herbs in Fall 2009 in 30 Earthboxes. The student volunteers also have been beautifying the campus by planting and mulching shrubs, trees, and flowers. Furthermore, the garden area is not only used as an outdoor classroom, but also there is indoor gardening as well with Fast Plants, allowing students to investigate projects related to genetics, ecology, and cell biology. In the future, we hope to assist the surrounding elementary schools to have their own school gardens.
Program History:

Volunteer Participation: The students have taken more ownership in their school. They have learned not only horticulture techniques, but empowerment, social responsibility, and community service. Also, they have learned concepts such as artificial selection, how genotype is related to phenotype, asexual vs. sexual reproduction, how to use sustainable gardening in maintaining ecological stability, and how different cell types and tissues in plants contribute to its growth and function.
