Mission Statement:
“Causeway Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers connects people with needs to people who care for ongoing supportive connections. Causeway provides volunteer and community services to the elderly and adults with disabilities allowing them to maintain independence and dignity.”
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
The services we offer are designed to keep those we serve active, out of care facilities and enjoying our community. Services like outings, friendly visits, errands, shopping, Arts Buddy, Sports Buddy, light home chores and repairs, respite, reading , seasonal outdoor chores and assistance with writing help an individual remain independent and in their own home.
Program History:
CAUSEWAY began in 1986 with the guidance of the Bethany Elder Advocate Program and the Advisory Committee. Pastor Sue Sheffer (Olivet Lutheran Church); Dorothy Kuechmann (St. Luke’s United Methodist Church); and Linda O’Connor (Bethany Lutheran Homes); among others, organized six La Crosse northside churches to form the first cluster. Each church provided an ecumenical blend of volunteers to assist older adults and adults with disabilities in their neighborhoods. As news of services spread, CAUSEWAY expanded to the southside of La Crosse, followed by Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem. In 1994, CAUSEWAY experienced other growth opportunities and, with the support of our congregations, merged with Bethany Lutheran Homes, Inc. This same support and the importance of our mission led Causeway in 2009 to suspend its merger with BLH and operate as an independent program. Our history continues in La Crosse County to serve those who call upon our mission.
Events:
Causeway has several fundraisers throughout the year that are open to the public to enjoy and support. Please visit our website to see what is coming up!
Additional Information:
All new volunteers to the Causeway program receive information, orientation, review of background and direction on meeting their match prior to volunteering with an individual. Individual or group volunteer services are always welcome.
We at Causeway look forward to hearing from you!
