Volunteer Oportunities
As a volunteer with SEDARVP GHANA, you discover a new culture, accomplish something unforgettable,
and explore what Ghana has to offer! Immerse yourself in Ghanaian village life while contributing
to the livelihoods and education of children, or the sustainable local farming methods of the community.
This is an opportunity for you to connect with West African culture, while being a part of broader positive community
change, supported by volunteers from around the world. Below are our volunteering opportunities.
We are looking for people with good hearts, with or without previous experience or qualifications...
including teachers, students, social workers, nurses, doctors, medical students, childcare workers and caring people like you! This could be the
start of the most amazing life-long adventure you could ever imagine! According to your abilities and desires we can place you as a
volunteer working with orphans, street children, women's empowerment groups and also assisting local midwives. We also have a program for sports volunteering with the local football team! We try to be flexible and place you where your interest lies, so even if you don't see it mentioned here, just ask!
You choose! We have urban and rural placements available all over Ghana but most of our work is in the Tamale region, Northern Ghana
The ProgramSEDARVP-Ghana will pick up participants from the airport in Accra. The organizer will meet them at the airport and further assist them to get a hotel and check in. When arriving in Accra participants will have a one-day orientation. At this time participants will be assigned a work location and a host family. Living with host families enables volunteers to learn much of the culture from their host mothers.
When arriving in the town/village of work placement, SEDARVP-Ghana will provide another three days of orientation to get used to the culture and learn basic things. Volunteers can also stretch out their hands to other departments where their services will be needed. Volunteers will serve in their areas for the period of 1-3 months or 4-6 months depending on the program they selected.
When visa extension is needed SEDARVP-Ghana takes the responsibility of extending it when they find it appropriate. This additional cost will be at participant's own expense. Nearing the end of the program, volunteers are expected to write a report of activities to the organization to enable us to better tackle the problems these deprive people need. Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation at the end of the program. Participants can use this certificate to verify that they have undergone training and experience within this organization, which not only provides professional in-service training but also some preliminary language training and cultural participation (drumming and dancing).
The cost is less than many other volunteer training organizations for the simple reason that this work is so urgent and vital.
Some African doctors will not treat the poorest women and children and many people die on their way to hospital, including pregnant women and street children. Many small children live and sleep on the streets, or work there making their small trades (eg selling water) to pay for their schooling. There they are subject to the dangers of traffic as well as human cruelty, like rapes and beatings.
SEDARVP-Ghana tries to help all of these voiceless ones. Why not find out now how you can use your compassion and your professional skills to benefit humanity and help put an end to extreme poverty?

Mission Statement:
SEDARVP-Ghana's mission is to empower youngsters through quality education, social justice and civic education for the betterment of humanity.
Through : The education of youth about the dangers of irregular migration. advocacy for youth involvement in environmental protection collaboration with other institutions for the complete eradication of child labour. and the awareness creation on drug and substance abuses.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Our believe is to have a world in progress!
Program History:
The Street Library Project is one of our major projects as ' we embark on creating an innovative education to help improve reading and learning culture amongst young persons in Ghana.
Libraries play very instrumental role in the development of both urban and rural communities as they provide a livable and environmentally friendly space for people especially kids to develop their potentials through reading of relevant books, interacting with friends and learning from one another.
Reading widens the scope of a child, pushing them to think outside the box and enhances their imagination, making them intelligent and artistic in a very unique manner.
In our part of the world, many people have not embraced reading but there are a whole lot of others who love to read but cannot afford to buy books which are very expensive anyway!
Schools in most Ghanaian communities also face problems with books as students are not able to read properly because there are fewer books available in their schools to read and the few that are available are either outmoded or damaged beyond repairs.
Many parents in the rural communities have also complained about their kids getting into bad companies due to peers pressures. It is very common in our societies today that, kids get involved in all kinds of social vices including stealing, drug abuse and internet fraud.
We at Sedarvp Ghana have found out that it is because these kids have nothing productive doing after school, that they are tempted to use their extra energy to engage in vulgar acts.
Sedarvp "Street Library" facility provides kids the space to judiciously engage themselves.
It provides easy access to a reading facility for kids to read!
It is for this motive that we are embarking on this campaign to appeal to Governmental agencies, corporate institution, Partner organizations and other able individuals to support this project in cash or in kind.
It is our aim that with the support of the public we will be able to put up "street libraries", stock them with relevant and most recent books, historical monuments, computers, internet services and other research materials which will help improve upon the reading and writing skills of our Twinkle Twinkle Future Stars!
Together We Create An Enhanced Education For All!

Grapes of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath (GoW) is a capacity building project for youth workers that aims to explore and deconstruct patterns of psychological and social tension between in-groups and out-groups with reference to migrant communities in the EU. Specifically, the project will promote intergroup contact by conveying the agony of outsiders and inspiring empathy, using arts as a tool for communication.
The story of the Joad family from "The Grapes of Wrath", 1939, the classic inter-war novel of John Steinbeck, and the revolutionary songs of Woody Guthrie about peace, equity and freedom will be the starting point for developing a state of the art module of non-formal education.
Needs AnalysisGoW results from empirical evidence and collective reflection pointing to misinformation as a main impediment for effective tackling the rising inflow of African migrants in the EU. Misinformation refers to perceptions of citizens in host societies about migrants' needs and to expectations of citizens in origin communities about the actual prospects in destination countries. It leads to stereotypical images that obstruct meaningful contact and, thereof, integration of migrant population in host communities. In turn, this results in low quality of life of migrants through social discrimination, unemployment or precarious labour and unequal access to state resources (education, healthcare, etc.).
The reconceptualization of migrants' role is equally crucial for addressing EU's own multiple crises -political (rise of extremism), economic (inequality across and within MS) and social (demographic deficit).
Aims & Objectives
GRAPES OF WRATH aims to enable contact between migrants and hosting communities in the EU and to foster informed decisions of potential migrants in African countries regarding the trip and life in Europe. In specific, it will:
- Raise awareness of communities in partner countries about migrants' stories and perceptions;
- Foster deeper understanding about the process, reasons and psychological impact of migration;
- Encourage socioeconomic development of both origin and destination countries.
- Tackle needs of origin communities, thus, contributing to containing irregular migration;
Partner Organizations
- Inter Alia, Greece - Applicant and coordinator
- PRISM Promozione Internazionale Sicilia Mondo, Italy - Partner
- Resource Hub for Development, Kenya - Partner
- Arcadia Center, Greece - Scientific Partner

All project activities will be based on non-formal education and informal learning. The project foresees 7 mobility activities (2 training courses and 5 study visits including field research) involving 72 participants, the production of a documentary film, 15 local events and one final international event. The main learning methods are experiential learning, learning by doing, peer learning, task based learning, learning through arts, observation and job shadowing.
