Additional Information:
Volunteer projects and internship opportunities with Travellers Worldwide provide an opportunity to take education outside of the traditional classroom setting. For 16 years, Travellers Worldwide has been providing students and adults with volunteer projects and internships overseas. Join us during a holiday break, a vacation, a gap year, or any time of year that you feel the need to immerse yourself in a new culture and help those in need at the same time! Volunteers use our projects to learn more about themselves before jumping into college, some volunteers find that they need a career break while others explore their intended education career path or maybe even discover their true passions in life. There's a big world out there….it would be a shame to miss it!
Setting: Let SRI LANKA be your classroom! This vibrant country is full of life and natural beauty. Come visit the place where East meets West and there is something exciting to see and do with every turn. The costs here are low and offer a chance for the traveler on a budget to experience much of the country. Scuba diving, hiking, wind-surfing, and sailing are only some of the activities that you will be able to try while volunteering at local schools and centers. Maybe you will even muster up the courage to get up close and personal with the elephants at the wildlife sanctuary and wander through ruins in the cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa to walk in the archaeological history of this region. Take a trip to Sri Lanka and expand your knowledge of the Eastern world!

"The best part of the whole experience for me had to be working at the Elephant Orphanage. Oh my god, what an opportunity, those sorts of experiences don't come along everyday. Work in the morning was 'hard-work', but great fun at the same time, but you get your reward in the afternoon when the Mahoots let you go in the river and wash the elephants. They had to drag me out of there everyday, as I didn't want to leave. I built up a close bond with one of the elephants 'Sapu' - a seven-year-old female. The Mahoots taught us the commands, and I was over-the-moon when she actually obeyed me!! It was such a good feeling. It was just so amazing to be up close with these animals, not many organisations let you do that these days. So for that, I am eternally grateful." - Carina Rogers / Elephant Experience - Sri Lanka
"Overall - I loved Sri Lanka, it's the most crazy place I have ever been! The crazy driving, the children who constantly laughed at us, the amount of people they can fit on one motorbike, being in a tuk-tuk, cows in the middle of the road and people shaking their head when they mean yes! The Ja-Ela house was wonderful - Roshan looked after us brilliantly and Niranjala was helpful and hilarious and earnt herself the nickname of Neuralgia! Ajith and Gamini were wonderful and looked after us, always with a smile. A fantastic experience and also a life changing one! I have made beautiful friends for life and cannot settle back home! I have to go back to Sri Lanka soon to collect my heart! Thank you!" - Debbie Atkinson / Teaching and Orphanage - Sri Lanka
