Mission Statement:
The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Arthritis affects more than 46 million adults and 300,000 children in the United States. The Arthritis Foundation’s steadfast dedication to research provides more than $34 million each year, totaling more than $300 million (2,200 scientists), to find a cure for this diseases.
These programs are community-based services that not only educate, but also make life easier and less painful for the 340,000 adults and 1,800 children in our service area that suffer from this painful disease.
Program History:
Services provided by the Arthritis Foundation, Nebraska Chapter include:
• Continuing education courses and publications for health professionals;
• Camp Spirit, yearly camp for kids with Arthritis and Family Education Day;
• Arthritis Self-Help Programs;
• Water and land-based exercise classes;
• A wide variety of educational brochures are distributed to patients and physicians;
• Distribution of Arthritis Update, a chapter wide newsletter mailed to people affected by arthritis, physicians and legislators;
• Information and referral services, which provide timely and accurate information on arthritis and referrals to community resources, such as support groups and arthritis specialists.
• Research funding, both local and national research
Events:
Arthritis Walk (Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island); Woman of the Year Gala (Omaha); Bone Bash (Omaha); Wine 'til 9 (Omaha); Jingle Bell Run/Walk (Lincoln)
