ICAN provides customized patient advocacy services to Stage IV cancer patients in over separate cancers and cancer subtypes who have been "written off" by their medical teams and who have been sent home with no options. ICAN seeks to expedite the anticancer drug discovery pipeline at all levels.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
No cancer patient should be written off by any medical team. No cancer patient should be divested of hope. No cancer patient should be in intractable pain.
Program History:
ICAN (previously known as IFADD, International Foundation for Anticancer Drug Discovery) was launched in Phoenix on Valentine's Day 1997.
We have dealt with thousands of cancer patients on advocacy and treatment issues. We lobbied successfully for a $10 million Arizona state legislature appropriation for a newly created Arizona Anticancer Drug Discovery Program in 1998-1999 which benefited academic and medical centers throughout the state. Over 90% of our time is devoted to Patient Program Services.
We actively seek volunteers in over 11 separate areas of ICAN, particularly Web Research and Fundraising.
