Program History:
The Jacksonville Public Library has always welcomed citizens 16 years or older to volunteer. Before the recent growth to the library system the library had 10 - 20 ongoing volunteers. On Sept. 5, 2000, residents across Jacksonville turned out at the polls to approve The Better Jacksonville Plan (BJP) as a blueprint for Jacksonville's future. With BJP, renovations of existing branches as well as construction of six new regional units took place. On November 12, 2005, the new Main Library opened to the public and a rejuvenated volunteer program was launched. The library now has 200 - 300 ongoing volunteers.
